Bethany Place of Safety is located in Ikwezi, a township outside Mthatha in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. It is home for upwards of 55 children, but almost always the numbers are in the high seventies! The children's ages range from a couple of hours old, up to 7 years. We offer a safe and loving environment to all those in need from the Transkei area - including a nursery for our youngest and a pre-school for our eldest children. We are richly blessed by the community we find ourselves in - not only by gifts of food and clothing but by the gift of time. Bethany children are often thought of at festive times and are never forgotten by the Mthatha people.

Bethany is located in Ikwezi, a township just outside Mthatha - which is in the Eastern Cape. Mthatha was the old capital of the Transkei, and is dominated by the Xhosa- speaking people of South Africa. It is the birth place of many of South Africa's great leaders including Nelson Mandela.

 Sister Mary Paule - A Catholic Sister , from the Order of the Precious Blood, who has dedicated her life to helping others, and who in the past decade has given herself over completely to ensuring the care and love of all the little people that pass through Bethany's doors. Without her there would be no Bethany - an amazing lady!
